Lighthouse

Lighthouse

Lighthouses have long been a symbol of both guidance and hope — a beacon of light shining out to mariners on dark nights and the expectation of reaching safety during uncertain or hazardous times. This painting was inspired by a visit to the Outer Banks and expresses those dual emotions; it was based loosely on the Bodie Island Lighthouse. The National Park Service web site has a history of the lighthouse here.
