The Gondolier
This mixed-media canvas painting depicts a gondolier (a Venetian oarsman) waiting for customers during a sunny day in Venice, Italy. His boat, a gondola, is a traditional Venetian rowing boat. Gondolas were for centuries the chief means of transportation within Venice and still have a role in public transport, serving as traghetti (ferries) over major canals. In creating this painting, I used visual elements from the dozens of photos I took during my trip to create a timeless romantic scene that typifies Venice.
